Ukraine calls to convene UN Security Council

A meeting of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada is being held this Friday. The main topic on the agenda is the country’s’ reaction to the events in Crimea where Russian soldiers are seizing airports and installing roadblocks. Ukraine may ask the UN Security Council to monitor the situation in Crimea and take measures if the sovereignty is infringed. The Verkhovna Rada has supported the appeal to guarantee Ukraine’s territorial integrity and safety according to the non-proliferation treaty. 230 MPs voted for it.

An emergency meeting of the Ukrainian National Security council dedicated to the situation in Crimea will be held soon, acting President of Ukraine and speaker of the Parliament Alexander Turchinov announced.
