Since the beginning of the year, the Lithuanian Department of Migration has checked about 2,000 citizens who often travel to Belarus and Russia, writes Delfi.

It turned out that 1,700 of them have dual citizenship - Lithuania and Russia or Lithuania and Belarus - on legal grounds or a residence permit in another country.

At the same time, six people were found to have dual citizenship (Lithuania and Russia) without being entitled to it. None of them cooperated with the Migration Department or responded to the request to submit documents proving the right to dual citizenship. As a result, the Department initiated the procedure to deprive them of their Lithuanian citizenship. The order to deprive them of their citizenship was signed by Minister of Internal Affairs Agne Bilotaitė.

The facts of concealing Belarusian citizenship are not reported.

Now several hundred other citizens are being checked in Lithuania.
