Former head coach of Belarus freestyle ski team Mikalai Kazeka dies

On August 10, 2026, the former head coach of the Belarusian national freestyle ski team, Mikalai Kazeka, died. He was 76 years old.
The coach's death was announced by Belarusian hammer thrower and Olympic silver medalist Vadzim Dzeviatouski on his Instagram page.
According to betnews.by, Kazeka's death was preceded by a brief coma. The coach fell into it following an accident — he was working at his dacha when he fell and lost consciousness. Kozeko never regained consciousness.
Mikalai Kazeka had headed the Belarusian national freestyle ski team since 1993. Under his leadership, athletes won eight Olympic medals, including four gold.
In 2020, Kazeka signed an open letter from sports figures demanding that the results of the presidential election in Belarus be declared invalid. After that, he was placed on a blacklist.
