Lukashenka proposes US join Belarus-Gazprom nitrogen fertilizer project

Lukashenka wants to build a nitrogen fertilizer plant in Belarus together with the United States. He announced this during a meeting with the governor of Russia's Ulyanovsk region, Aliaksei Ruskich.
Russia's Gazprom corporation has reportedly confirmed its participation in the project. Lukashenka claims that he personally agreed on the construction of the plant with Russia's leader Vladimir Putin.
"Vladimir Vladimirovich and I agreed that Gazprom would join us in implementing the project to build a nitrogen plant. We need to make the Americans an offer. They want fertilizers — nitrogen ones included — fine, let's build it together. According to your technology", Lukashenka said.
Incidentally, in December 2025 he had proposed that the United States buy the Niazhyn mining and processing plant, but no deal was reached.
This year, the US lifted sanctions on Belarusian potash fertilizers.
