Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University has decided to resume the study of the Belarusian language. "The Belarusian language is not only the language of the self-proclaimed president Aliaksandr Lukashenka," ukrinform.ua quoted rector Volodymyr Bugrov as saying. - It is the language of the Belarusian people, of the soldiers of the Belarusian formations, who are part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, fighting for the freedom and independence of Ukraine and their homeland.

The Belarusian language is studied at the Slavic Philology Department of the Institute of Philology.

It emerged that the Belarusian language and literature had disappeared from the curriculum at the Institute of Philology of Kyiv National University in autumn 2023. At that time Bugrov called this decision "an emotional step".
