"KinoVarka" urges to shoot films in Belarusian

The main news of the 4th season of the festival of short films “KinoVarka” is the new nomination – “Best film in Belarusian”. Producer of the company “Karambol” and one of the inspirers of “KinoVarka” Uladzimir Maksimkau says that films in Belarusian have been sent to the festival before. But “KinoVarka” is going to support the national cinema in the future.

Uladzimir Maksimkau: “We think that it is our duty and holy mission to promote the development of the national cinema. It is an empty niche in Belarus. We will try to restore it with the help of young crazy cinematographers”.

Jury member – well-known script writer and producer Andrei Kureichyk is very happy about the nomination “Best film in Belarusian”. He expects to find new names at “KinoVarka” and to witness a breakthrough in the Belarusian cinema:

“I do believe that we have approached some critical mass and a break-through is inevitable, - thinks Kureichyk. – I can see young people with glowing eyes who want to shoot films and nothing can stop them even if they lack money. It means that everything is about to start. Works that will open a new page of the Belarusian cinema will appear”.

One more “topical” film will become an innovation of “KinoVarka”. Journalists will be its actors, script writers and creators.

“It will be demonstrated hors concours because we will produce it ourselves – explains Uladzimir Maksimkau. – A lot of topical events have occurred in the world this year. The working title is “Who manipulates whom or the way we kick each other’s wheels”. It is a working title but is reflects everything that has impressed us”.

Actress Hanna Lyahchylava may become a jury member this year. Her preliminary agreement has made the ideological team of the festival to try gathering creative Belarusians from all over the world at least online, says Maksimkau.

Moreover, jury members and the company “Karambol” are still ready to support all bright and crazy ideas and help contest participants shoot their films. There are no topic, age, sex or nationality restrictions. You can also come and describe the idea of your film. If the jury likes it, “Karambol” will present free technical opportunities to shoot your film.

Applications will be accepted until July 1. The jury will consider all the works in July and invite the best authors to interviews. They will also decide what films will be shot with the help of “Karambol”. Finished films will be accepted until October 1. The short list of the best films will be available for voting at kinovarka.tut.by.  “KinoVarka” will announce the results of the contest at the beginning of December.
