Massive explosion at German chemical plant

A huge explosion has rocked a chemical plant of the company Bergolin in Niedersachsen. The company produces chemical dyestuffs. The building has been destroyed. About 200 firefighters are trying to extinguish the fire that is 50 meters high, BBC reports.

The blast could be heard ‘dozens of kilometers away’, the local police chief said. One employee has been seriously injured, German mass media report. He was taken to hospital by helicopter.

Several surrounding homes have been damaged. Their inhabitants are posting photos of broken windows in social networks.

No information about the possible leak of dangerous substances is available. However, the blasts continue and the heavy fire is making the firefighters’ work difficult, the local press reports.
