Belarusian writer and Nobel Prize laureate Svetlana Alexievich has commented on the reaction to her statement about same-sex love in an interview with the Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza. “Love is love, Alexievich said back then. “If this miracle has occurred, it does not matter who you love. I used to love both women and men.”

Radio Liberty has asked the writer to comment on her statement. “I am not going to discuss my personal life,” Svetlana Alexievich said. “I gave a sincere reply in response to the other person’s sincerity. However, I am not going to keep discussing it. They keep discussing what house I should live in and who I should love.”

The writer is working on her new book about love. “The time has changed and I am a different character now,” Alexievich continued. “I can live the way I see it right and the way I want. I have always been doing so.”
