Visa regime with Georgia is another step away from West

Let us remind you, the first deputy head of the state customs committee Andrej Harulka stated that such visas might be introduced, because Georgian citizens allegedly got to Russia without visas through the territory of Belarus.

Shautsou: “This means that connections between Belarus and Russia are becoming tighter than before. If visa-free regime between Belarus and Georgia was possible before, it is impossible now”.

Shautsou thinks that the anti-West political trend is becoming stronger in our country.

Shautsou: “Lukashenka said many times that he thought the West had cheated on him and that the state turnover had been planned on December 19. Taking into consideration the reverse policy which has started in our country recently, and what happened in Georgia, it all seems natural"”.

The political scientist notes that Georgia is a key country in the relations between Russia and the West. He says that the West saved Georgia from the catastrophe in 2008, and the Georgian topic wasn't the last one in the informational war between Belarus and Russia last year. Now it is raised in another context.

Does it mean that Belarus will recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia in the end of it all? The expert thinks it won't happen.

Shautsou: “Well, a step in this direction has already been taken. However, I don't think this will happen, as we have a swap with Venezuela and Azerbaijan. The oil which goes to us from Azerbaijan, goes through Georgia. I don't think that Belarus is interested in letting this swap become a part of an intrigue. That is why I think Belarus won't make it to recognition, but some kind of relations between Belarus and Abkhazia can be started, at least with some informational aims”.
