Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan to agree on trade barriers for Ukraine

The measures that need to be taken in connection with Ukraine’s Association Agreement with the EU will be discussed there.  It may cost $33 billion to Ukraine, RBK reports referring to expert of the Civil Initiative Committee Aleksei Kudrin.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is going to sign the economic part of the Association Agreement with the EU on June 27. The agreement’s trade part dissatisfies Russia. The agreement contradicts Ukraine’s similar agreement in the CIS, Russia thinks. The technical consultations between Russia and the EU yielded no results last week. The agreements are completely compatible, EC representative Pia Hansen claimed. Russia did not agree with it.

Ukraine’s agreement with the EU may cause the domino effect – Ukrainian goods will be forced out by European goods and go to Russia. There is also the threat of European goods’ re-export to the Customs Union, Moscow claimed. If Ukraine switches to the European technical regulations, it may transfer the problems existing in EU-Russia trade to Ukraine-Russia trade.
