This has been informed to the
representatives of the Belarusian opposition by the representatives of the
European Foreign Actions Service John Kayer and Steven Tracing. The meeting
took place in the EU's representation in Minsk on Friday. Belarus was presented
by Alyaksandr Atroshchankau, Anatol Lyabedzka, Syarhei Kalyakin, Andrei
Dzmitryeu, Alyaksei Yanukevich, Iryna Veshtard and Vital Rymasheuski.
Atroshchankau
has said in a comment to "Charter'97" that the EU's representatives
assured that their position with regard to political prisoners remained
unchanged. In case all political prisoners are not released within the nearest
several weeks the sanctions against the Belarusian authorities will be
expanded. The diplomats also said that they would watch the parliamentary
electoral campaign in Belarus.
The
opposition members also asked about visa regime simplification for Belarusians.
The EU's representatives answered that they handed their suggestions to the
Belarusian side and were waiting for the reply of the official Minsk.
