Pavel Yakubovіch: "The BPR is part of the history of Belarusians”

A discussion about the Belarusian People’s Republic and its significance for the Belarusian state system took place in the editorial office of “Sovetskaya Belorussiya”. The head of the institute of History Alyaksandr Kavalenya, famous Belarusian historians Vital Skalaban, Uladzimir Lyahouski, Valyantsin Mazets and others took part in it. A report about it has been published in the today’s issue of the edition.
The editor-in-chief of “SB” Pavel Yakubovich noted in his speech:

"The BPR is part of the history of Belarusians. The romantic idea clashed with the harsh reality of 1917-1918 and was doomed to failure, so the tragic fate of the people who established the BPR… The very fact that Belarusians tried to create their independent state for the first time in 1918, - it deserves respect”.

All participants of the discussion agreed that the BPR was a stage of creation of the Belarusian state system.

Let us remind you that the Day of Will is celebrated on March 25 (although it is not official). The independence of the Belarusian People’s Republic was announced in Minsk on March 25, 1918. Democratic forces have planned a traditional festive manifestation in the Belarusian capital on March 25.
