Bayechka: Lithuania admitted that Swedish plane crossed Belarusian border

"They [Lithuanian frontier guards] have admitted the fact that the state border was crossed illegally [the Belarusian border] – they have done it right because the state border should be protected on both sides,” Interfax West quotes Alyaksandr Bayechka. “I think they have come to some conclusions.”

Swedish citizens crossed the Belarusian-Lithuanian border by plane in Iuye District at about 6 a.m. on July 4. They dropped teddy bears in Minsk and Ivyanets. The bear had notes appealing for the freedom of speech in Belarus attached to them.

KGB detained photographer Surapin who posted photos of the toys on the Internet and realtor Basharymau who was supposed to let out a flat to the Swedes. They were let off from KGB prison several weeks later. Head of the Border Committee Ihar Rachkouski and commander of the air forces Dzmitry Pahmelkin were dismissed after the scandal.

The frontier guard who did not inform about the incident was imprisoned for 2 years.

By the way, Belarus refuted the fact of illegal crossing of the border at first.
