Bank: We'll sell currency for social needs but under our own rates

The banks abolish selling foreign currency for social needs since September 15. "Paritetbank" has become the first bank to do that, and then "Belarusbank" also stopped accepting applications for selling foreign currency for socially important aims.

Nevertheless, all the applications which were filed before will be considered, Press-Secretary of "Belarusbank" Larysa Hrynko has told to Euroradio:

“We need to consider them and give a reply... All the applications filed before will be considered by the bank and the applicants will be provided an opportunity to buy currency but under the new rate”.

There's no need for selling foreign currency for social needs anymore since the additional session exists at the currency stock exchange, representatives of "Belarusbank" think.

Larysa Hrynko: “It will be possible to buy dollars, Euros, Russian roubles for medical treatment, education etc. in free sale under the rates established by banks on the day of the financial operation…”

Since May 13, 2011 "Belarusbank" has considered 12 thousand applications for purchasing foreign currency for social needs. On the whole, they've sold foreign currency for the sum of 12,5 million dollars in equivalent.

Larysa Hrynko: “By September 15, 2011 "Belarusbank" has sold foreign currency for social needs for the sum of 4 million 680 thousand USD, 2 million 192 thousand euros and nearly 133 million Russian roubles”.

Let us remind you, the National Bank allowed five banks to buy currency in the currency exchange offices till December 1, 2011. These are "Belarusbank", "Belinvestbank", "Belagroprombank", "Paritetbank" and "Alfa-Bank". The received currency was supposed to go for social needs and to be sold under the National Bank's rate.
