Actions of solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners to take place all over the world

Youth activists will conduct a traditional action of solidarity in Brest on February 16. They are going to draw attention to those who suffered as a result of the election of December 19, 2010. Brest human rights activist Vasil Vauranyul has asked the local authorities to allow a picket in support of the arrested and those who were persecuted by the authorities after the events in the Square. There is practically no hope that the authorities will allow the picket, but solidarity is very important, says the human rights activist. An action of solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners will also take place in Vilnius. Activists of presidential candidates’ teams, representatives of the Belarusian diaspora, EHU students, students of Lithuanian universities and all the interested will take part in it. The action will begin near the museum of genocide victims at 4 p.m. Its participants will light candles and walk towards the Belarusian Embassy where a meeting of solidarity will take place. Activists of the human rights organization Amnesty International will conduct a picket near the Belarusian Embassy to Moscow and demand to release opposition members detained in Minsk after the December election. A peaceful action of solidarity with the relatives and friends of missing Yury Zaharanka, Victar Hanchar, Anatol Krasouski, Zmitser Zavadski, numerous political prisoners and all the victims of “the last European dictatorship” will traditionally take place near the Belarusian Embassy from 1 to 2 p.m. in The Hague. The action is organized by the local initiative “We remember”. Belarusians living in the Netherlands will organize an action of solidarity with the increasing number of Belarusian political prisoners on February 19, two months after the presidential “election” in Belarus. The action will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. local time near the building of the International Criminal Court in The Hague. An action of solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners will also take place in London near the Belarusian Embassy from 2 to 3 p.m. on February 19.
