Minister of Sport: Hockey players got Belarus' average annual wage a month
Belarus' Sports Minister Aliaksandr Shamko slams athletes who complain about their wages.
"Sportsmen complained about their wages and we reacted to it – athletes’ wages have gone up from 1 million 200 thousands last year to 4 millions a month now. And they can get bonuses too. It is an achievement in some way,” tribuna.com quotes the Minister.
At the same time the system of dependence and timeserving existed and it demotivated people, Shamko noted. He also commented on the so-called riots of Salihorsk Shahtsyor players. They refused to play until they would get paid for the previous month. “You received the average wage for that month. What for? For empty seats in the stands? The club director gets $8 thousand a month from the budget,” the Minister was indignant.
