Public prosecutor does not inform on new charge against Breus and Haponau

The new charge against the Russian citizens Ivan Haponau and Artsiom Breus will differ a lot from the previous one. However, the chief assistant of the Minsk public prosecutor Siarhej Balashou refused to inform the details in a conversation with Euroradio.

Siarhej Balashou: “Having considered the materials of the case which were studied during the court investigation, there arised the necessity to re-word the charge. And this is for the state public prosecutor to decide whether the new charge will be stricter or milder”.

The state public prosecutor Siarhej Kunash is to pronounce the new charge during the closed court trial on March 1, according to the the chief assistant of the Minsk public prosecutor . He has also assured that the contents of the new charge will be informed to no one until then.

Let us remind you, Ivan Haponau and Artsiom Breus were accused of active participation in mass disrturbances, damaging the House of Government and armed resistance to the representatives of the law-enforcement authorities. They may face 3-8 years of imprisonment upon these articles. After interrogation of witnesses and studying the video-materials of the case the public prosecutor asked to postpone the trial for 7 days in order to re-word the charge. The trial is to be resumed on March 1.
