In pictures: Calling for spring in Stročycy
Villagers sang spring songs around a huge bonfire, calling spring to take over from winter to reconstruct the ancient Belarusian tradition.
The rite of calling for spring has been held in the Belarusian People’s Museum of Architecture and Everyday Life in Stročycy.
The calling for spring is a traditional Belarusian way of saying goodbye to winter and welcoming spring. It is known since pre-Christian time. The holiday is marked with songs and round dances.
