Lyaukovich: There are many rumors that Kozulin will be freed

Alexander Kozulin, a political prisoner and the chairman of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada), might be soon released from prison, according to unconfirmed reports. Talking to the European Radio for Belarus on Thursday, Anatol Lyaukovich, the acting chairman of the party, would not rule out such a development either. He said:

“There are many rumors that Kozulin will be freed. I have indeed heard such rumors. I am not saying this because I have a confidential source... I just have this information".

However, the party could face serious problems before the anticipated release of Kozulin. According to Lyaukovich, the party offices yesterday were visited by the police and the revenue authority officials. They had questions to the owner of the spaces

Lyaukovich said:  “It was a bit surprising to see the police and the tax inspection visiting our office one after another. I want to hope that this is not a political order, aiming to deprive us of the legal address and to shut down the party”.

It is very possible that Kozulin could end up at freedom but without a political party ahead of the parliamentary elections…
