Georgian wine-makers to enter Belarusian and US markets

Georgian wine-makers are looking for new markets because of the Russian embargo. Belarus is among promising markets too.
Ukraine used to be the main consumer of Georgian wines for a certain period of time. 55% of their wine used to be sent there. Thus, Ukrainians bought 6 million 747 thousand 668 bottles of Georgian wine in 2008 which is 10% more than in 2007.

The export of wine to Belarus has increased by 60% and to Latvia - by 51%. Georgians also consider Poland, the USA, Estonia, Lithuania, Israel and Germany to be popular exporters of their wine.

However, Ukrainians have started drinking less Georgian wine due to the crisis. Nevertheless, wine-makers claim that there is a reserve – Belarus, the Baltic States, Great Britain, Germany and the United States.

Now Georgia is getting ready for the vine and wine congress. The 33rd international congress will take place in June 2010.
