Belarus builds nuclear power plant in secret

Construction of a nuclear power plant at the Chyrvonaya Paliana site in the Magiliou region might already be in progress, reports belaruspartisan.org. The specialists close to the project say this could be the cause of cement shortages across the nation.

The project is classified.

In an interview with belaruspartisan.org, Inav Nikitchanka, a fellow member of the National Acedemy of Sciences of Belarus, noted that he "would not rule out a possibility of construction works." But the announced construction deadline of 4-5 years is not realistic, because preparations and staff training require at least 2 years, he said.

Belarus Prime Minister Sergei Sidorski and other high-ranking officials repeatedly announced that Belarus would have his own nuclear power station ready within 4-5 years.
