Royal Bank of Scotland severs relations with Belarus
One of the biggest British banks has decided to stop the mobilization of capital it conducted on behalf of the Belarusian government.
It was done due to human rights defenders’ sharp criticism, informs the BBC. The Royal Bank of Scotland is part of the syndicate the Belarusian government used to borrow money. Human rights activists from Free Belarus Now and Index on Censorship accused the bank of supporting Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s authoritarian regime. RBS has confirmed that the political situation in Belarus was taken into account when the decision was made.
