EU-Belarus – another thaw?

Leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka told Euroradio about this possibility of unilateral liberalization.

Lyabedzka: “I have been informed that the higher officials of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Council of Europe itself will be allowed to contact Belarusian officials. It is some kind of liberalization."

However, the politician does not understand why the EC needs it. The thaw would be more logical if the Belarusian authorities released political prisoners. But it looks like another attempt to make the first step in relations with the official Minsk. This attempt will bring no result, the politician thinks.
