Baranovich sentenced to 3 years of restriction of liberty

The last “Dec.19” trial has ended today, on October 12. Svyataslau Baranovich was accused of “participation in mass riots”. The accused admitted that he hit a policemen’s shield a few times after he had been hit.

Baranovich has been sentenced to three years of so-called “home penal labour”. He cannot leave the city either.

Human rights defender Uladzimir Labkovich has told Euroradio on air that the sentence is light but it is also illegal and unfair. According to him, the court did not prove either the fact of mass riots or Baranovich’s participation in them. At the same time, the human rights defender says that Baranovich will not be considered a political prisoner because he has not been imprisoned.
