On August 20, Myanmar's president Min Aung Hlaing arrived in Belarus on an official visit. On Friday, August 21, he is scheduled to hold talks with Aliaksandr Lukashenka. It is reported that they will discuss cooperation in industry, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, science and education.
Min Aung Hlaing was met at Minsk airport by Deputy Prime Minister Viktar Karankevich.
On the very first day of the visit, the Myanmar leader met with Prime Minister Aliaksandr Turchyn. They discussed industrial cooperation, agriculture, food production, as well as joint projects in healthcare.
A Belarus–Myanmar business forum is also taking place in Minsk today. Myanmar is represented by a delegation of around 70 executives and representatives of companies and financial organisations.
General Min Aung Hlaing led a military coup in Myanmar in February 2021. For five years he served as the country's prime minister, and this April he became president. The elections were organised by the military, held without the full participation of the opposition, and were criticised on the international stage. Meanwhile, a civil war continues in Myanmar.
