Nobel laureate Ales Bialiatski met with John Coale ahead of his visit to Belarus

Human rights defender, former political prisoner and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ales Bialiatski met with John Coale, the US president's special envoy for Belarus.
The meeting between the Nobel Peace Prize laureate and the US president's special envoy for Belarus took place on 8 September in Washington.
"The meeting took place in a warm atmosphere," the human rights centre Viasna quoted Bialiatski as saying. No further details of the meeting were provided.
Ales Bialiatski was released in December 2025 as a result of negotiations between US authorities and the Lukashenka regime.
According to media reports, Coale's next visit to Belarus is scheduled for 14 September.
