Bill to protect children from harmful information signed into law

Лукашэнка падпісаў закон па абароне дзяцей ад шкоднай інфармацыі

Alyaksandr Lukashenka has signed the law on additional measures of protecting children from harmful information that may damage their health and development. The law signed on May 11, 2016 has been published on the National Legal Portal today.

The changes will apply to the law on children’s rights advertising, mass media, information, information protection and publishing. Most of the amendments will come into force on July 1, 2017, BELTA reports.

All information products will have to be marked for age categories (“0+”, “6+”, “12+”, "16+" and "18+").

Legal entities and private entrepreneurs producing or distributing information will have to indicate the age categories on their products now.

Owners of computer clubs, Internet cafes and other places offering access to the Internet and educational institutions will need to take measures to prevent the distribution of information that may do harm to children’s health and development.
