KGB attempts to recruit Malady Front members

Security agents have offered cooperation to a student in Homel. He has refused but now expecting possible problems with his education. And, this is not for the first time.

Dzmitry Fyaskou is a sophomore student at the Homel State Agrarian and Economic College. Last week, he was summoned by Sviatlana Sarvirava, a deputy director in charge of ideology. The professor then left the student tête-à-tête with a security operative.

According to Dzmitry Fiaskou, the agent asked questions about the operation of Malady Front (an opposition youth group) and was interested in Andrei Tsianiuta, a member of the local Malady Front organization. Afterwards, the security officer proposed that Dzmitry reports on the operation of the organization to KGB, but the young man refused.

“We are dealing with yet another example of psychological pressure, because the authorities seek to curb the way of youth’s resistance”, Andrei Tsianiuta commented to the European Radio for Belarus.

Andrei does not rule out that the college administration will now try to expel Dzmitry Fiaskou.

There is only one hope. It was Sviatlana Sarvirava who authored the methodological recommendations on human rights. The documents notes: “students with the developed legal consciousness have a deep understanding of the integrity of human rights and freedoms. They regard it as something natural”. Hopefully, the professor will follow her own principles rather than the political expediency.
