Germany's Stange signed to coach Belarus national football squad
Berndt Stange, 59 of Germany has been approved by the Belarusian Football Federation as the chief coach of Belarus's national football team, reports Interfax. Stange ended his career as a professional player when he was 22 years old because of heavy injury.
During his long coaching career, he managed for seven years the now non-existent East Germany's team. After East and West Germany unified into a today's Germany, Stange was fired from the post as the Berlin-based Gerta manager after he was accused of collaboration with the notorious East Germany's secret police Stasi.
The German coach recently worked with several Ukrainian and Austrian clubs and also managed Oman and Iraq national sqads. He lived in Australia in the recent years. Berndt Stange is a fluent Russian speaker.
The place of Belarus's national team coach became vacant in mid-July 2007 after Yury Puntus volunteerly resigned from his post. The Belarusian Football Federation made it clear in the beginning that it would shortlist only foreign coaches for the job.
