Belarusians to not be deported from Sweden for now

Belarusians will not be deported from Sweden for the time being. The already issued decisions are suspended, the Belarusians who found themselves in this situation told Euroradio.
Sweden is extremely reluctant to grant international protection to Belarusians and force them to leave the country after refusing. But because of the scandal, the authorities have decided to reconsider the applications.
The deportation decisions already taken will be suspended for the time of the review.
As previously reported, the scandal broke out after Sweden refused to grant asylum to a Belarusian man and his mother, who were threatened with political persecution in their home country. The man was deported to Belarus via the border with Lithuania. He was immediately detained at the border.
An internal investigation was then launched in Sweden, and the Migration Agency promised to review asylum cases for Belarusian citizens.
