Belarus economy minster saves money on utilities bills

Mikalai Snapkou organized a hot line in the office of Respublica newspaper on Wednesday.

Euroradio asked him if he could stick to the social electricity and water tariffs and not exceed the norm. The Minister replied that he could even save more.

Snapkou: “I do not exceed the norms as I have a small family and I think we could save even more because I sometimes notice that that light is turned on when it is not needed.”

He has replaced all his light bulbs with energy-saving ones, the Minister of Economy noted.

Mikalai Snapkou also noted that the tariffs would keep increasing together with Belarusians’ wages.

The increase will be steady but purposeful, the Minster added. “People should pay 15% of their income for communal services, not 7-8% like they do now,” he thinks.
