Belarus not ready for local border traffic with Lithuania and Poland

According to the Foreign Minister of Belarus Uladzimir Makey, a small border movement between Belarus and Latvia is operating very successfully. However, during its operation, there were detected some weaknesses. Therefore, at the summit in Riga, there was prepared and signed a protocol. It further simplified the possibilities for crossing the Belarus-Latvia border for residents of border areas: it will be easier for the citizens of our countries to get permission to visit  relatives abroad.

But the experience gained with Latvia will not affect the introduction of local border traffic with Poland and Lithuania.

Makey: "There's another problem: there are a lot more people. Border infrastructure is not in ready for the introduction of the local border traffic."

However, the Minister assured that the experience of Latvia in this area will be analyzed and in the near future they will try to apply it to cooperation with Poland and Lithuania.
