Belarus makes first step towards recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia

The parliaments of Abkhazia and South Ossetia have acquired the status of observers at parliamentary meetings of the Union State of Russia and Belarus.
The decision has been taken during a parliamentary session in Moscow today. “Interfax” informs that the discussion was brief and the session’s participants hesitated about one thing – will the agreement be legal taking into account the fact that Belarus had not officially recognized the independence of the republics.

A Belarusian representative Mikalai Charninets said that he did not see any problem in it and a positive decision was taken.
