Andrei Haidukou imprisoned for 1.5 years

The sentence was pronounced in a Viciebsk Court at 11 a.m. The prosecutor asked to imprison Haidukou for 2 years on June 27. Haidukou’s charges were changed, Belarusian Attorney General Alyaksandr Kanyuk said earlier.

The trial started on June 12. The Navapolatsk activist was initially charged with treason and was facing betwee seven to fifteen years in jail, if convicted.

Andrei Haidukou’s relatives and friends insist the case was framed-up and that he faced prosecution for his opposition activities.

The Navapolatsk activist was detained on November 8, 2012. He has remained behind bars since then, most of the time in a KGB interrogation prison.
