African swine fever found in wild boar in Belarus

Stoubtsy forestry told Euroradio:

“A few cases were respired near Iuye District [African swine fever]. Nothing has been noticed near Stoubtsy yet.”

People have been asked to avoid going to forests inhabited by wild boar. They may distribute the fever on their footwear and clothes. However, it is very difficult to control the situation – you cannot guard all the forests.

Lithuanian state veterinary service asked the European Commission to allocate 5.5 million euro (12 million litas) in order to save the country from African swine fever registered in Belarus in Iuye and Vitsebsk Districts.  A 500-km barrier may be installed along the border to prevent wild boar from crossing it.
