Unrest in Paris, riot police drafted in

Riot police were drafted, they will remain in place until calm is restored.

The clashes started after the arrest of a 21-year-old Frenchman who became a Muslim just recently. The man's wife was told by police on Thursday to remove an Islamic face-covering veil, banned in public. He has been accused of trying to strangle the officer, BBC reports.

Up to 300 people attacked a police station in Trappes on Friday night where the man was being held. In the end, a 14-year-old teenager was sent to hospital with eye wound.

Reinforcements from the riot police were drafted in and Interior Minister Manuel Valls said they would remain in place until calm was restored.
