Underground film about Stalin's secret police executions released in Homel

An amateur documentary film titled The Death Woods about the mass executions during the Joseph Stalin's rule has been released in Homel. It narrates about the sites of 1930s-executions by Stalin's secret police NKVD recently discovered in the Homel district, reports Belapan. The graves were found by forensic experts from Belarus's Defense Ministry who are routinely dispatched for digging missions in order to find and rebury with honors the remains of the Red Army soldiers killed during the World War Two. However, the authorities said that it was impossible to identify the time of the killings. Officials were inclined to believe that the discovered remains were the victims of Nazi's executions.

The film's authors who prefer to remain anonymous noted that the authorities are trying to silence up the results of the findings. A new housing project could be constructed on the site, the authors warned.

Meanwhile, civil activists have recorded interviews with the relatives of those repressed and some residents of the Homel district who testified about the NKVD crimes in the film.

CDs with The Death Woods are being released in Minsk and the Homel region.
