UN may denounce Belarus for human rights violation

33 countries have introduced the project of a resolution denouncing Belarus for human rights violation to the UN General Assembly.
The authors of the document are “deeply occupied” because of the fact that “a system of criminal justice” needed for repressions of the political opposition and human rights defenders is being established in Belarus.

The project describes “the further erosion of the democratic process” and claims that local elections in Belarus in 2007 were organized using the method of threatening the opposition and prosecution of independent mass media.

The authors of the project (the USA, EU countries and Japan are among them) reminded the official Minsk about the murder of Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s political opponents in 1999 and a journalist in 2000.
