Trade unions leader backs Lukashenka's course on Labor Day

Leanid Kozil, the chairman of the official Belarusian Federation of Trade Unions, made a speech during the authorized Labor Day celebrations near the National Library in Minsk. He noted that the rally aimed to support the efforts of the Belarusian leader to create a socially-oriented economy.  The trade union leader said that the federation comprised 28 unions with a total membership of over 4 million workers.

Kozik voiced support to Lukashenka's decision to bring an average wage up to $700/month by 2010. The figure was voiced by the Belarusian leader during the recent state-of-the-nation address at the National Assembly.

Over 3000 people, including activists from the Federation of Trade Unions and by-passers, took part in the rally, reports Belapan.
