Supreme Court: Belarus may abolish death penalty soon

The death penallty may soon be abolished in Belarus, said Valery Kalinkovich, a deputy chairman of the Supreme Court of Belarus. Capital punishment was used for two people in 2008. Thus, Belarus has come close to introducing a moratorium on the death penalty.  

However, Kalinkovich noted that it was not in the competence of the Supreme Court to abolish the death penalty.
