Senator Andrei Paulouski released from KGB jail under house arrest

КДБ выпусціў сенатара Андрэя Паўлоўскага пад хатні арышт

The owner of the Hrodna-based maker of livestock feed additives Biocom and member of the House of the Republic (upper chamber in the Belarusian parliament) Andrei Paulouski has been placed under house arrest, reports tut.by. According to KGB spokesman Dzmitry Pabyarzhyn, new circumstances were detected in the course of investigation into Paulouski's case. They made it possible to change the measure of restraint.

The prominent businessman was detained by KGB agents in late October. On October 30, the House of the Republic lifted his parliamentary impunity righter after the speech by KGB Chairman Vlaery Vakulchyk. The KGB chief claimed Paulouski's companies had evaded taxes. Paulouski was accused of failing to pay Br144 billion in taxes for the supplies of feed additives, veterinary medicines and equipment for agricultural companies.

KGB claimed the Biocom group of companies masterminded this criminal network, which also included companies from eight countries.

An anonimous source told tut.by that Pauoluski was "released to enable him to run his company in order to re-launch the factory and generate revenues to cover the losses and pay everything back to the state."

Biocom had earlier issued a statement that Paulouski's detention could affect the work of 700 enterprises across Belarus.
