Road police chief calls for higher rates for driving lessons

Vasil Bulbyankou, Belarus' acting road police chief, told BELTA that a rise in fees for driving lessons is absolutely necessary and that rates may soon rise by 10 to 15 percent because of the growing waiting lists.
Earlier, the transport ministry said that it would not press for higher rates this year, but may do so in 2009 if fuel and park maintenance costs go up. Driving schools' profitability rate is reported not to exceed five percent.
