Riga supermarket collapse: death toll climbs at 54 (photo, video)
Latvia is preparing for a three-day mourning for the victims of supermarket roof collapse in Latvia's capital city of Riga .
The incident occurred on Thursday evening. The roof in Riga shopping centre Maxima collapsed.
The number of victims keeps increasing since rescuers are still looking for bodies and survivors under the debris. It is not clear how many people may still be trapped there. Over 40 people were injured; many of them are in a serious condition.
There are three rescuers and three employees of the shopping centre among the victims. Three more Maxima employees are missing. A rescuer died while saving an injured man when part of the roof fell upon him, Delfi reports.
Latvia will go into mourning on November 23, 24 and 25. There have never been any tragedies where dozens of people would die in Latvia before.
