Respublika to publish opposition candidates' programs

The state-run newspaper Respublika has agreed to publish the programs of MP candidates from the opposition United Civic Party. Initially, the newspaper had refused to publish the UDF platform outlined in the programs of three candidates from the United Civic Party -- Anatol Lyabedzka, Stanislau Bahdankevich and Hanna Yahorava.

Later, the Central Elections Commission advised the opposition politicians to split the UDF platform into three separate programs by changing the word "platform" with "program". After the oppositionists said they were ready to accept this amendment, the newspaper agreed to publish their materials.

Anatol Lyabedzka said in an interview with the European Radio for Belarus that while Respublika promised to publish the materials, another state-owned newspaper Zvyazda said it was expecting a call from the Central Elections Commission to give a go-ahead.
