Stanislau Shushkevich: EU may promote dictatorship
The first independent Belarusian state leader has commented on the information that visa sanctions may be lifted from Uladzimir Makei.
Shushkevich: "I am starting to think that the European Union is inconsistent. We have already witnessed the situation when Javier Solana arrived and then Benita Ferrero-Waldner started exchanging kisses with our authorities. I do not exclude that the they have not cured of "the disease" so far. It does not speak well of this wonderful structure as it is ignoring its main term - the release of political prisoners. I think that it will only promote dictatorship here and political prisoners will be rotting in prison."
The Minister of Foreign Affairs may be removed from "the black list" only after all Belarusian political prisoners are released, Shushkevich thinks.
