Euroradio has tried to find employment for biochemists and bio-technologists.

The Belarusian State University will accept twice more first-year students- biochemists and microbiologists. At the same time, they shorten the law faculty.

So, where will the graduates with prestigious diplomas of biochemists and microbiologists work?

"Food industry got interested in microbiologists. Dairy production enterprises hire them eagerly. Biochemists are required in the expert-criminalist centers. Our main client is the Academy of Sciences, they order new young specialists every year. We have increased the scope of students of these specializations twice. This is the plan of the Ministry of Education", - they say at the biology faculty of the BSU.

However, representatives of the Minsk Dairy Plant No. 1 tell Euroradio that that don’t need microbiologists. They ask to wait until someone goes for maternity leave.

"At the moment, we need controllers of food products. However, specialists with higher education do not want to go there. We have a lot of women working at our plant now, some of them may go for maternity leave, so there is an opportunity to take a position of a biologist in such case", - they promise at the dairy plant.

And suggest the salary - Br 3 million at the position of a microbiologist.

There is no deficit of microbiologists in the Institute of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences.

"2nd year students come to us. We mostly need technologists from the Technological University. Therefore, we have no deficit of microbiologists", - they say in the Academy of Sciences.

They promise the salary of 1 million and a bit + bonuses, 2,5 million Belarusian roubles in total. Because...this is the state university.

The expert criminalist department of the city administration of internal affairs of Minsk city executive committee needs such specialists:

"When we need someone we look for a specialist and hire him. We do need such specialists but there is no deficit".

It turns out that the police are willing to hire biochemists. However, they also need lawyers, acceptance of which has been decreased. This year, they assigned all (!) budget students. There were no free diplomas. And they tell us there are too many lawyers!

"The main orderers are the public prosecution, the Investigation Committee, the bar associations and the Ministry of Justice. However, lawyers are also assigned to banks", - they tell Euroradio at the law faculty of the BSU.

"There are indeed too many economists and lawyers. The lawyers found it hard to get employed recently. However, there has always been great demand for microbiology and bio technologies, although this work will never be well-paid in our country. I think that people get such education in order to emigrate abroad", - says director of the personnel agency "Kvadrat" Svyatlana Karastsyalyova.

However, this year's school graduates are not likely to consider whether their future professions of a microbiologist or a biotechnologist will be demanded.
