Great Britain condemns sentences pronounced to ex-candidates in Belarus

According to BelaPAN the sentences pronounced to ex-candidates Mikalai Statkevich and Dzmitry Us were the reason for the statement. In Hague’s opinion, the ex-candidates were convicted for using the constitutional right to protest against numerous violations committed during the election on December 19. The British politician has also condemned the sentences pronounced to Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu and Vital Rymasheuski.


Great Britain has urged Belarus to immediately release all political prisoners and drop the charges against them. Hague also condemned the persecution of the civil community and independent mass media.


Great Britain has urged to conduct a thorough, credible, impartial and transparent investigation in accordance with international standards into the allegations of torture of all the arrested.
