Christian Orthodox intelligentsia of Belarus appeal to Patriarch
33 Christian Orthodox activists, culture figures, and businessmen have addressed to Patriarch Kiryl with an unprecedented appeal.
The authors of the appeal explain that they have addressed to the Patriarch as they want to believe that his position of support for Aliaksandr Lukashenka is caused by the lack of information.
They tell about falsifications and violations during the election, and also remind that many Belarusians, led by their conscience, came out for a peaceful manifestation to show their protest against lies, violence, injustice. They were brutally beaten, more than 600 people were arrested and subjected to administrative responsibility. Moreover, 19 people - presidential candidates and their closest assistants - were arrested by the KGB, they suffer from severe pressure, some of them are seriously injured.
"We are asking you to support the detainees. We are asking you to state that the Church considers falsification of any elections, whatever the aims of it might be, as lies and sin. We are also asking you to condemn the unmotivated violence and call on the provocators who really organized the acts of violence near the House of Government to confess and repent. We are asking you to defend the families of the casualties, which are threatened by the custody authorities to be deprived from custody rights for their children", - ask the Orthodox activists.
