Belarusian opposition politicians adopt appeal to EU leaders in Brussels

These are the European Belarus, the Belarusian Christian Democracy, the Young Front, the "Tell the Truth" campaign, the United Civil Party, the Belarusian Left Party "Fair World", the Union "For modernization", the Belarusian Green Party, the Belarusian Social- Democratic Party "Assembly", the CCP BPF, the movement "For Freedom", and the Party of Freedom and Progress.

The signers of the statement urge the EU institutions "to make every effort to democratize Belarus," and to "step up activities in this direction" in order to achieve it.

"We understand that only the Belarusian people can determine the democratic future of the country, but in order to make this  happen in the near future we need the full support of the EU member states and the European Union itself ,”- the web-site Charter’97 quotes the statement, - “The EU should call for the immediate release of all political prisoners and their rehabilitation, as well as  for the end of political repressions. "

Among those who signed the statement there are Zmitser Bandarenka, Syarhei Kavalenka,  Yury Hubarevich, Ales Mikhalevich, Aleh Novikau, Syarhei Vaznyak, Alyaksandr Atroshchankau (on behalf of Stanislau Shushkevich) and others. In the document, they expressed confidence that in the future Belarus will join the European Union.
