Protestant priest appeals court ruling

Antoni Bokun, the pastor of an Evangelic protestant church in Minsk, on June 8 appealed the actions of the police and a court ruling against him.
The priest said that he filed a complaint against Police Lt Andrej Trusch, who detained him on May 27 on charges of "illegal prayer". The pastor also complained against Police Maj Alieksandr Radziukevich who detained Bokun during a service on June 3 and wrote a protocol about "violation of the law on mass events and then extended his detention term till the hearing in court.

In the view of the pastor, Radziukevich illegally trespassed his private property and violated his right to the freedom of religion. He also illegally detained him till the hearing, the pastor said.

Besides, Bokin appealed in a Minsk City Court against the rulings of the Central district court judges Leanid Jasianovich and Tatsiana Pauliuchuk on May 28 and June 4, which sentenced him to a fine of Br620,000 and three days of administrative arrest for "staging an unauthorised mass event", according to Belapan.
